The Magellan GPS Car Kit works with your iPhone or iPod Touch by enhancing its GPS receiver through a receiver built into the cradle. It is also a hands-free Bluetooth speakerphone and provides in-cradle charging for your device. The dock connector, however, does not support the new Apple iPhone 5.

This GPS Car Kit supports the iPhone (3GS/4/4S) and the iPod Touch (3rd/4th generations). The dock connector means that the iPhone 5 is out of the question because it utilizes the new, much thinner Lightning connector.

The dimensions of the cradle measure 6.1 x 5.8 x 2.8-inches (wdh) and weighs 0.8-pounds. It attaches to a suction cup mount that attaches to the windshield of a car. The top of the cradle has an adjustable slide to keep your iPhone or iPod Touch in place. The cradle is designed to accommodate cases on your device, so you don't need to remove it before mounting it inside the cradle. In our testing, we found that all but one of our test cases worked in the cradle. Mostly any case that isn't too bulky will fit in without much of a problem.

To charge your device, Magellan includes a cigarette lighter adapter that plugs into the cradle's side. When in the cradle, power is supplied to your iPhone/iPod Touch and it will charge. The Bluetooth hands-free speaker system also works via the dock connector (iPhone only). When a call comes in, the speaker activates and also has a noise-canceling speakerphone. We found the quality of the speakerphone to be fairly good.

The internal GPS receiver built-into the cradle works through the dock connector to boost the GPS signal strength of your iPhone. This is a unique feature for iPhone car cradles
