The new Lenovo ThinkCentre M92p Tiny is a business-oriented desktop PC that takes the meaning compact to a whole new level. It has a 1.4-inch thickness and a total volume of one liter, so it can definitely fit into tight spaces. With a new Intel Ivy Bridge CPU, optical drive and DisplayPort, it's one nice machine.
This compact PC is similar to the IdeaCentre Q180 in terms of design that we reviewed in April also from Lenovo. It also featured the side attachment for an optical drive or other accessories.
The design of the ThinkCentre M92p is very minimalistic and extremely compact. It measures 7.9 x 7.2 x 1.4-inches (wdh) and weighs 2.9-pounds, which makes it the smallest, most-compact desktop that we've reviewed. Adding the optical drive onto the PC's side adds about 0.75-inches of width.
Lenovo offers several options and attachments for the M92p aside, including a VESA-compatible monitor mount, an under-desk mount kit, an external battery pack for backup power and an external wireless antenna. For business users, this PC contains Intel's Active Management Technology (AMT) for remote maintenance and management.
In terms of ports, there's two USB 3.0 ports on the front, two more in the rear alongside one USB 2.0 port, one gigabit Ethernet port, VGA-out and DisplayPort-out. Lenovo gives you the option to use a maximum of four monitors to form a square with the use of additional DisplayPort adapters. There is no built-in Wi-Fi, but Lenovo offers the external wireless antenna for purchase.
Like we mentioned earlier, with the optional DVD+/-RW drive attached to the side of the PC, one of the USB ports is used by the short connector cable that goes into the back of the DVD drive and the PC itself.
The specifications of the Lenovo ThinkCentre M92p includes a new, Ivy-Bridge Intel Core i5-3470T (2.9GHz) CPU, 4GB of RAM, a 500GB 5400RPM hard drive and integrated Intel HD 2500 graphics.
In our use, we found this PC to perform quite well and definitely speedy for its small size. Streaming HD videos from the Internet was very smooth and worked without a hitch. Performing business tasks, like working on Word docs, Excel spreadsheets and composing e-mails all at once all went very smoothly. This is definitely a powerful machine for business and home office needs, especially if you need a computer to fit in a confined area.
