The Magellan RoadMate 5265T-LMB is another 5-inch GPS coming into an already crowded field. However, this new model brings a new Bluetooth Safe Texting feature that lets you safely reply to incoming calls with pre-written texts. It also comes loaded with a AAA Tour Book Guide which is great for traveling in unfamiliar places.

The Magellan RoadMate 5265T-LMB is very compact and follows the same design that all other GPS models have. It has a fairly thin black bezel and a 5-inch display. The display looks exactly like every other Magellan GPS that we've tested. The overall quality of the display is good and has very good brightness levels. However, while side-to-side viewing angles are good, the vertical angles are not so good.

It has a touch-screen as well that does seem to have an increased sensitivity compared to previous Magellan models we've tested. We have complained in the past about some sensitivity issues and slow response times, but this model seems to have that under control.

This model also has a new version of Magellan's built-in software, which also seems to be a little speedier than before. It still utilizes the same predictive type, which makes typing in addresses much more easier and quicker. One of the new features we noticed was the Phantom Alerts feature, which alerts you to red light cameras, speed cameras, speed traps, school zones and railroad crossings. Now while we understand it is important for people to drive safely and abide by the traffic laws, having these alerts while traveling in unfamiliar areas can be helpful.

You can also use the 5265T-LMB in either portrait or landscape mode. It does not have an built-in accelerometer, so you have to change orientation in the settings menu.

Another new feature is the Bluetooth Safe Texting system, which lets you reply to incoming calls to a paired Bluetooth smartphone with a pre-made text message. This allows you to safely and legally reply to incoming calls. The caller will get a text saying you are driving and will return their call when you have reached your destination. We were able to get this feature successfully working on our Apple iPhone 5 with no problems.

This GPS also has the capability to use Magellan's back-up camera system, which is a camera that attaches to your vehicle's license plate. The image from the camera is displayed on your GPS automatically when you backup.

In addition to the usual mapping features, like lane-assist and turn-by-turn directions, you also get the new landmark guidance, which will tell you to turn at familiar, easily-seen landmarks in addition to street names. There is also free, lifetime real-time traffic updates and alerts, which is always great to have.

Magellan also provides free, lifetime map updates and the GPS comes pre-loaded with maps of the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. The points of interest database comes loaded with over 7 million POIs and there is also a AAA Tour Book Guide that provides you with AAA-reviewed destinations. Each of those destinations has a description, rating and review, which can be helpful when in an unfamiliar area.
