Review

The Samsung LN55C650 is a 55-inch high-definition LCD TV that has lightning fast pixel refreshes and network features that allows you to stream audio and video from any computer to it from the remote. It has a 16:9 wide screen aspect ratio, 1080p resolution, lots of connection options, and above-average picture quality.

The new Samsung LN55C650 has a glossy black body with hints of red on it, especially along the bottom front. It measures 3.1-inches thick and 51.6 x 33.1-inches in width and height, respectively. It also weighs in at just short of 65 pounds, which is fairly heavy. The stand that it comes with is probably a little under-rated for this TV as it does rock back and forth with little force.

Along the right, bottom side of the body is where the touch-sensitive buttons are located, but they're rather hard to use because you cannot see them without an extreme amount of light. The remote that comes with the TV is exceptionally good, with a plethora of easy to navigate and use, backlit buttons.

The connection options on the Samsung LN55C650 HDTV are very good. On the backside you get 2 components, 1 composite, 3 HDMI inputs, 1 RCA audio, coaxial input, RJ-45 Ethernet input, 1 VGA input from a computer, and 2 USB ports. The front side ports on the right edge include 1 composite, 1 HDMI, and 1 RCA audio.

As mentioned, the LN55C650 has a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 and supports all video formats from standard definition (480i) to high-definition (1080p). It's a wide screen display with an aspect radio of 16:9 and an excellent contrast ratio. There are three built-in tuners: ATSC, NTSC, and QAM.

There are many image adjustments and settings available to the user via the on-screen menu. Some of these include four picture modes, like Standard, Natural, and Movie, and other conventional settings like brightness, sharpness, contrast, and so forth. There are also noise filters to rid the picture of any noise or fuzziness that may appear. There are also many sound settings, as this TV does include two 15-watt speakers with virtual surround sound with an option to enable SRS TruSurround HD. The audio output is very loud and crisp/clear at the same time, which is a huge plus.

Image quality with the LN55C650 is outstanding and definitely above-average. The black levels are excellent due to the high contrast ratio, which allows it to produce very deep blacks and grayscale gradients with ease. Colors were represented with true color accuracy and looked visually appealing. High-definition content looked phenomenal on this TV and standard definition content looked pretty good as well. No ghosting was seen with fast-moving images due to the 120 Hz Clear Motion Rate technology that Samsung has implemented.

Some of the multimedia features include online Samsung applications, like Netflix and Blockbuster for online streaming for subscribers, Hulu Plus for watching TV and movies, and more. There are also applications that provide weather and news, like USA Today, Google Maps, and AccuWeather. This model can be connected to your home network via Ethernet connection or by wireless with an adapter.

This TV is also compatible with Samsung AllShare, which is their way to network your home PCs and TV and allow picture and video content to be streamed to your TV.
