Trade In Your Old iPad for Apple Gift Card

March 15, 2012

Apple didn't make that part of its March 7 announcement, but Cupertino has now quietly added the iPad to its reuse and recyling program.

Apple will let you send in your iPad for evaluation and if it has any monetary value, Apple will offer up an Apple gift card.

To see how much your older iPad is worth, head to the Reuse and Reycle website and fill out some information about your device. Apple wants to know if your iPad works, if the battery fully charges, if there is an engraving, any cracks or damages, scratches, or water damage.

A black, 32GB iPad 2 (Wi-Fi + 3G) in working order with no damage, for example, could land you a $245 Apple gift card, while a similar, 64GB iPad 2 could bring in up to $320.

The original iPad is a tad less lucrative; a 32GB 3G iPad in working order but with a few scratches would be worth about $85.

Apple announced yesterday that its new iPad will go on sale at 8am on Friday local time. It will also be available at Best Buy, Radio Shack, Sam's Club, Target, and Walmart, as well as via wireless carriers AT&T and Verizon.

The updated tablet includes a Retina Display, 4G LTE connectivity, an improved camera, and the new A5X processor with a quad-core GPU, among other things. At this point, wait time for new iPads ordered via Apple.com are at 2-3 weeks. Recently, an analyst suggested that Apple could sell more than 1 million iPads on Friday.
