Enterprise users prefer Apple over Android, especially when it comes to tablets, according to a new report from mobile security solutions provider Good Technology.
After analyzing mobile device activations from its enterprise customers during the first quarter of 2012, Good found that the iPad continues to dominate the enterprise tablet landscape, while Android slates are struggling to gain traction. The iPad accounted for 97.3 percent of total tablet activations during the period, while Android tablets dropped to 2.7 percent, down from 5.2 percent during the fourth quarter of 2011.
"With Windows 8, we expect more competition for Apple and the iPad in the enterprise tablet space, especially for proactive, company-owned device deployments," John Herrema, Good Technology's senior vice president of corporate strategy, said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Apple's iPhone 4S was the top mobile device for the second quarter in a row among Good's enterprise customer base. The coveted smartphone accounted for 37 percent of all activations during the first quarter — four times that of any other device.
The iPad 2 took the second spot, with 17.7 percent of enterprise activations for the quarter, followed by the iPhone 4, with 15.2 percent. Though it was just released last month, the new iPad took the number four spot, accounting for 4.3 percent of all activations during the quarter, and 12.1 percent of activations in March alone.
Android smartphones, meanwhile, represented 26.1 percent of all activations for the quarter. The Motorola Droid was the most-popular Android device and the seventh most-popular device for the quarter overall, accounting for 1.6 percent of all activations.
The report did not, however, take into account activations of Windows Phone 7.5 devices, such as the Nokia Lumia 900, since Good did not add support for the Windows platform until April 2012.
