Lenovo Recalls ThinkCentre Desktops

Lenovo ThinkCentre

Lenovo said Thursday that the company has recalled just over 50,000 ThinkCentre desktops because of the risk of a fire hazard.

Only a single fire incident has been reported, and one that includes smoke, Lenovo said, in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

According to Lenovo and the CPSC, the recalled PCs, are flat-panel monitors with the PC integrated into the monitor housing itself. The computer chassis has a matte black finish with the brand name "ThinkCentre" in the lower left hand corner of the monitor front. The recalled desktop model numbers include the ThinkCentre M90z, which PCMag.com rated four out of five stars, and M70z along with the serial number and manufacturing date code can be found on a label on the underside of the unit.

Of the M90z and M70z models that have been recalled, the affected date codes are 1001 to 1012, 1101 to 112, 001 to 012, and 101 to 112. The affected computers were sold between May 2010 through January 2012 at prices beginning between about $500 for the M70z model and $800 for the M90z model.
