The CEO of the Taiwan-based PC maker Acer, Gianfranco Lanci, blasted Microsoft and Windows Vista saying that it did nothing for his company's PC sales as reported here...
"The entire industry is disappointed by Windows Vista," the head of the world's fourth-biggest PC
maker told the Financial Times Deutschland in its online edition on
Monday. "Never before had a new version of Windows done so little to
boost PC sales. And that's not going to change in the second half of
this year," Lanci said. "I really don't think that someone has bought a
new PC specifically for Vista," he added.
While the industry had waited for years for Vista, the software was
not really ready when it was launched to great pomp at the start of
this year, Lanci complained. "Stability is certainly a problem," he
said.
This guy has a lot of nerve to come out and say that about Vista. He makes himself sound completely ignorant about Vista and the PC market. It's not right to blame Vista for his company's own lack to development and PC sales over the past few months. The fact of the matter is that other major PC makers, such as Dell and HP, have put more money into development and marketing and in turn have gotten much better sales for new PCs running Vista. I bought a new HP media center PC running Vista Home Premium back in February just to get Vista on a new PC, so I have no idea what he's talking about. I think the vast majority of recent PC sales have been to get a new computer that is built for running Vista specifically.
I think the instability that he's talking about comes from his own company's lack of sufficient drivers and quality PCs. It's no question that Acer has become a second-tier PC manufacturer among consumers. Mr. Lanci, I think you need to put more effort towards improving your own company and its products before you start blasting other well-established companies.
