Netbooks are all the hot thing right now in the tech market because you can get portable computing for under $400 and they offer some really nice features as well. In particular, the Toshiba Mini NB205-N210 has 1GB of RAM, a large 160GB of hard drive space, a 10.1-inch widescreen LCD, and is an Energy Star 5.0 certified PC, which means it uses less power and therefore gives you a lot of battery life. The design of the Toshiba Mini NB205-N210 is very simple, but yet still functional. It measures 10.4 x 8.3 x 1.27-inches (wdh) and weighs a light 2.9 pounds. On the back side of the N210 is a half-circle shaped battery that does protrude out the back, making it a little awkward, but not horrible. Toshiba has branded this PC with its Fusion Edition branding, which means they use a technique to implant patterns right into the plastic molding of the housing. Unlike some other netbooks, you only get one style choice, a shiny black, which is very classy looking. The 10.1-inch widescreen display has a resolution of 1024x600 because of the display size (and is the same as other 10-inch netbooks). The display looks very nice and shows excellent color depth and detail and is also pleasing on the eyes, which is important with a netbook. The keyboard of this model is slightly smaller than other similar netbooks from Toshiba, which means they reduced the Alt, Control, and Fn keys to half their size on a regular notebook keyboard. In a decent tradeoff, the trackpad and mouse buttons are the same full-size of a regular laptop, which is excellent for extended use without having to plug in an external mouse for comfort. Some of the features of the Toshiba Mini NB205-N210 include 3 USB 2.0 ports, a memory card reader (SD, MMC, SDHC), 1 Ethernet port, and integrated 802.11a/b/g wireless connectivity. One of the USB ports doubles as a sleep-n-charge port, meaning it will charge another USB device as well. There is also an integrated video camera and microphone right on the top of the screen too. The internal features of the N210 include an Intel 1.67GHz Atom N280 processor, 1GB of RAM, 160GB (5400rpm) hard drive, and Intel GMA 950 integrated graphics. These specs are pretty standard with other similar netbook models. The operating system included is Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, but when Windows 7 comes out in October, you'll probably want to upgrade it because of better performance and stability. This netbook is also Energy Star 5.0, RoHS, and EPEAT Gold certified, which means it meets the latest standards for energy conservation and eco-friendly tech standards. The battery life is rated at 9.15 hours, but in real usage, you will get probably around 7-8 hours, which is pretty good and in line with other models. |
