The Samsung SyncMaster PX2370 is a 23-inch widescreen LCD monitor that offers excellent image quality with many features and a stylish design. The slimness alone of the screen is enough to catch the eye of a potential buyer. Budget buyers looking for a larger-sized screen will like the PX2370 because it's priced very competitively compared to other 23-inch displays. Just 16.5mm thin (about 0.75-inches), the Samsung SyncMaster PX2370 is a sleek-looking display that has a stylish thin 0.9-inch bezel with an angular body design. The bezel doesn't have any rounded or smooth edges, but rather hard-edged, sharp edges with a transparent plastic edge, which give it a modern look. The stand is made from transparent glass with a round 9-inch bottom that provides decent, sturdy support. From the front, it even looks like the screen is floating above the stand because of the glass to a first-time viewer. There is no height adjustment or the ability to rotate the screen from landscape to portrait mode, but you can tilt it back just a very slight bit. ![]() Courtesy: Samsung.com The various ways to connect the PX2370 to your computer include DVI-D and HDMI for video and analog & digital audio out for sound. Different from most other monitors, the connections face directly outward on the back instead of down. There is also an included adapter to connect it to an analog VGA video output. The power button is on the bottom part of the bezel and is a little circle with a LED light that illuminates when the display is powered on. The other buttons, for OSD & input control, are on the lower-right of the bezel are cannot be seen from the front of the screen, which is nice aesthetically, but makes navigation when them cumbersome. The OSD is pretty easy to use and navigate (once get you a hang of the buttons) and you adjust the contrast, brightness, color tones, and one of four presets: Custom, Standard, Cinema, Dynamic Contrast, and Gaming. These presets just adjust the color tone and brightness of the display to the settings that Samsung has determined to best suit your situation. The Samsung SyncMaster PX2370 has a resolution of 1920 x 1080, which is "Full HD" and has an aspect ratio of 16:9 with a refresh rate of 2 milliseconds. The HD resolution allows you to watch high-definition 1080p DVDs on this computer in their native quality. One of the really neat features on this model is the ambient light sensor, Magic Lux as Samsung calls it, which adjusts the brightness to a comfortable level based upon the amount of light already in the room. The sensor can be turned off or adjusted to three different sensitivity levels when activated. However when used, there wasn't much of a noticeable difference to the brightness to the eye of the different levels automatically adjusted by the sensor. Another feature that Samsung calls Magic Angle automatically modifies the screen's brightness and color tones to make it as viewable as possible from different angles. The four presets include Lean Back 1, Lean Back 2, Side Mode, and Standing Mode. This can be nice to use when watching a DVD in a more casual posture or when sitting upright in front of it for computing tasks. The image quality through the DVI-D connection is very good and the color tones seemed extremely accurate and vivid. Screen brightness did seem slightly dim compared to other monitors, but nothing too noticeable. Contrast between light and dark areas were very detailed and looked great. Text looked very crisp with and without using Microsoft ClearType. There was also no observable ghosting or lag with fast-moving objects on the screen. The viewing angles on the PX2370 were pretty good with only slight darkening and color loss at very extreme angles. Samsung provides a three-year warranty that covers both parts and labor (and the backlight too) and this monitor is Energy Star and TCO Display 5.0 certified and also has a gold EPEAT environmental rating.
