The Magellan Maestro 4370 offers GPS navigation of the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. There is voice guidance and announced street names to make navigation safer and other features, such as land guidance and 3D buildings, increase accuracy and easy of use. Live traffic reporting is also included and allows you to navigate around heavy traffic. The Magellan Maestro 4370 looks pretty much like any other similar GPS model out there, but the display on this model is amazing. It has a 4.3-inch high resolution 480x800 WQVGA touch screen and the whole device measures 4.65 x 0.7 x 3.26-inches (wdh) and weighs just a measly .46 pounds. Inside the package you get a USB data cable, a CD-ROM with the manual on it, an AC adapter, a cigarette vehicle power plug and FM traffic antenna, an adhesive dash mount, a windshield mount, a cradle and pouch, and quick start guide. The two included mounts work well, but before use, make sure you consult local laws because some areas do not allow windshield mounted devices. The cradle is made well, but with one small quirk. The cables for the device plug in the side and not the back, so the cords dangle off the side and removing the device from the cradle can be cumbersome. Using the 4370 is pretty easy, but the slowness of the user interface holds it back. Sometimes during the input of a name of a destination, the keyboard is slow, therefore, causing an occasional error. However, the menus and layout of the device's software is logical and works as the average user would expect. Proloaded are maps for the whole United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. There's also AAA TourBook points-of-interest (POI) points preloaded, which means you can search for AAA-approved hotels, attractions, and places to eat. If you have an emergency on the road, AAA's roadside assistance can locate your vehicle using the GPS to dispatch help. There are also 6 million other POI's preloaded and each one has addresses and telephone numbers included. For example, you can search for a nearby Mexican restaurant and it will tell you the phone number as well as guide you there using GPS. While in the route configuration mode, you can choose different styles of route mapping, such as the quickest, shortest, and most economical routes. Each route has a displayed total time and distance at the selection menu. In navigation mode, the Magellan Maestro 4370 shows a graphical representation of the road in front of you and announces upcoming street names and directions. 3D landmarks will appear when available for easy navigation as well. Another nice feature is the lane guidance which is helpful on a highway where you need to be in a specific lane for where you need to go, such as a fork in the highway. If you stray off your pre-calculated route, the 4370 will quickly and automatically recalculate a new route and guide you from there. There is also a built-in pedestrian mode for use while on foot. Included from Magellan is a three-month free trial of their SmartDetour service, which uses live traffic information to guide you around traffic jams and construction. The antenna for this service is built-into the device and costs $39.99 per year after the trial, which is a pretty reasonable price. The included FM receiver allows you to broadcast voice directions from the unit through your car's stereo system using an unused FM station in your area. The Maestro 4370 also has built-in Bluetooth for hands-free calling and an MP3 player to play music as well through the FM system.
