Have you ever tried to draw something with your mouse and have it turning out like something totally different? Well that's because with a mouse, you cannot get coordinated enough to draw something as neat as you would with a normal pen and paper. So companies, like Wacom, have come up with a digital tablet that uses a pen-like stylus to "draw" on a digital surface and it acts like a mouse so you can have more coordination to draw and do things like that. Using a tablet, especially a nice one like the Wacom Graphire4, can be pretty easy to use, but beginners may have to take a few days to learn to use it. Once you get the hang of it, it can make The total "active" area on this model of the Graphire4 is 4 x 5 inches, which is a pretty good Located on the very comfortable rubber-grip covered pen is two buttons which can be customized to do anything from a single click to a program switch. The mouse also has two buttons and a scroll wheel in the middle of the two buttons. Located on the tablet itself at the top is another scroll We also like the way that these digital tablets work compared to a standard mouse because each point on the "active" area of the tablet correspond to a specific point on your screen. For example, if you place the pen on the upper left corner of the tablet surface, the pointer on the computer screen will move to that same point in the upper left corner. Also, the pen has 512 levels of pressure sensitivity, which is especially useful in a painting application, such as Corel Painter IX. You can press down hard on the pen to create a thick line or let up on the pressure for a delicate stroke. Lastly, as a added little bonus feature, the cover of the Graphire4 slips off to allow you to place a photo or other artwork to decorate the surface of the tablet. Included with the Wacom Graphire4 is some excellent software. A full version of Adobe Photoshop Elements 3 (note that Elements 4 is the newest version, but version 3 is still good) is included with the tablet along with Corel Painter Essentials 2 (also not the latest version, but still decent). In addition to the above two programs, some photo-enhancing filters from nik Color Efex Pro 2, JustWrite Office 4 (for marking up Microsoft Office documents), and EverNote Plus (a note-taking program with handwriting recognition). In conclusion, the Wacom Graphire4 tablet is a great thing if you have hand injuries or just plain sick and tired of using a clunky mouse for everyday tasks. You'll especially want a digital tablet if you use a program like Adobe Photoshop or a digital painting application, such as Corel Painter IX.
